new server

Posted by rabidchild

Ok, so today I moved all the servers over to my new computer, and pretty much everything should be working here now.  If you see any problems, feel free to comment here or email me and I'll get things fixed.  Overall, all sites should work properly, and pretty much everything should work, with the exception of 2 things.  Photo galleries on rabidchild.org, theswans.org, and snabbieyoyo.org are not working yet.  Also stats on all servers are not set up yet.  Again, anything else anyone expects to happen that does not, let me know.

Bill Maher’s new rule

Posted by rabidchild

Got this from WWdN, who got it from Kos, posted by Bill in Portland Maine, thing on Bill Maher's new rule for March 16th.  Kind of frightening, but definitely worth the read.

New Rule: Liberals must stop saying President Bush hasn't asked Americans to sacrifice for the war on terror.

Mom and Dad aren’t home!

Posted by

This topic for discussion over at TPM Cafe is something that I think is one of the central problems in society today. It's a discussion about the fact that a parent at home is needed. Obviously it's ludicrous to suggest that "women need to go back home," but not having any parent at home creates all kinds of potential for problems for kids growing up. It also addresses the issue that "Mommy" responsibilities need to be shared between men and women, kind of silly to assume a woman would be in charge of those things these days. Topic that needs to be addressed more in the near future methinks.

Update:

Also it appears I comepletely didn't mention that this is simply not an option for most families. Which is the part of the problem that I feel needs to be addressed most. I don't think people don't stay home with their kids because they don't want to or don't care, it's just not financially feasible any more for one parent to provide enough income to raise kids and support a family in most jobs.

I really liked this guy's article again.  He's guest columning at the New York Times Op-Eds(behind NYTimes Select firewall as always unfortunately).  This one I was pretty skeptical about at first.  He's addressing the fact that Great Britain is proposing making The House of Lords an elected body instead of being appointed in the way they are now.  On the surface, this seems like an obvious move, but when considered a little more, this serves to politicize a body that otherwise serves as a check on the whims of the political winds of the day.  It's something interesting to think about anyway.
